Who We Are
Founded in 2009 by Theresah Agyemang, Ghana Xchange Volunteer Organization (GXVO) is a Ghana-based organization dedicated to creating meaningful international volunteering, clinical and elective opportunities in Ghana.
For over 15 years, GXVO has supported international volunteers, medical students, nursing and midwifery students, and other healthcare learners seeking practical experience within Ghanaian healthcare and community settings.
Through partnerships and collaboration with healthcare institutions and communities, GXVO facilitates medical electives, nursing and midwifery clinical placements, public and community health experiences and health outreach activities.
To provide meaningful clinical, elective and volunteer opportunities that connect international healthcare students with Ghana’s healthcare system and communities, while promoting global learning, cultural exchange and community impact.
What We Offer
Hands-on clinical placements in Ghanaian hospitals and clinics — ideal for medical students and early-career healthcare professionals.
Support community wellness and public health initiatives alongside local healthcare workers in rural Ghanaian communities.
Teach and mentor in local Ghanaian schools — a transformative cross-cultural experience while building children's futures.
Structured clinical placements for nursing students — gain supervised hands-on experience across hospital departments under qualified Ghanaian nursing staff.

My time in Ghana was really amazing. Right from the foods, the trips, the people and of course the hospitality Mrs. Theresa showed us. I am definitely planning to come back soon.
This volunteer programme changed my life. I met wonderful people, gained valuable skills, understood other ways of life and was truly happy. I also improved my English skills.
Theresa is amazing. She and her family provided a warm and welcoming environment during our six-week stay. The medical volunteering experience was enlightening and very fulfilling.
My elective at GXVO was truly transformative. From working at Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital to hands-on patient care across its different departments, every day challenged and inspired me. I left with skills, confidence, and a deep appreciation for global healthcare.
